Dew from Heaven
I thought I would share a poem that I wrote last year. This was written after attending the temple. And it was written during a particularly difficult time. (It has been modified slightly from the original.)
My heart
Looks to heaven,
Pleads for relief –
Nearly uttering
The doomed word:
“Why?”
At first,
My heart hears
Only silence.
Then, faintly,
The answer distills:
“Knowledge.”
God knows all.
“Experience.”
He understands everything.
“Purification.”
He is holy and perfect.
“Atonement.”
He gave His Son.
To become –
That is my destiny.
Pain and sorrow
Are part
Of God’s perfect plan.
Submit, oh broken heart!
Accept tailored tutoring
Designed only
To refine
And lead me home.

That was a moment of sweetness.

Thank you for posting that poem. After reading the post “God puts people places”, may I add, God inspires people to post things like this, for people like me to read!

Thank you, Stephen and Beanie, for your comments. I appreciate being able to share something that is significant to me with people who respond with open hearts. And I am grateful when experiences shared feel like a blessing for someone.

Thanks so much for this poem, Michelle. Many years ago I learned not to utter “The doomed word:’Why?’”
But I have at times still struggled to keep from saying, “Not this, please, not this!”
Beautiful reminders like “Dew from Heaven” will help me to remember to humbly accept with gratitude whatever “tailored tutoring” the Lord may send my way.

RoAnn,
Thanks for your comment. I need reminders like this on a regular basis — not only when I struggle with my own trials, but when I see others struggle. Eternal perspective is such a huge gift of the gospel.

Thank you, annegb. I’m finding that it’s been on my mind the past few days since posting it. It’s been good for me to remember what the Lord taught me, ya know?
