An Earnest Endeavor

A letter from our editor…

Dear friends of Roxcy/A Prayer of Faith,

My sincerest gratitude goes out to each and every one of you who read or participate with us here on the site as we have gone through various permutations of writers, plans for new looks, new names, summer break, and the like. I have to say that there have been plenty of times lately that I have felt far too small for the task of maintaining this project. The Lord has gone on to provide ongoing inspiration, and even the priceless gift of phenomenal help. I have been blessed to have some of the most amazing sisters of my acquaintance come into my life by way of connection to this project.

Even amongst ourselves, though, we are still refining the nature of our vision for what this site is, can, and should be. Thank-you for your patience as we have scouted different directions. You will notice at the top of the screen that we have reverted to the original name, A Prayer of Faith. That is, exactly, what this site is about, and you just can’t improve on a title that fits so precisely. So please note that we will be migrating to the new URL http://aprayeroffaith.org. Roxcy may resurface, in time, as its own site, with its own mission and focus.

One of the biggest lessons that we have learned thus far through experience with the site has been that we, having created this site, bear accountability for its use and content, both here within its own confines and beyond the internet in the world at large. In creating this forum, we have a responsibility to see that it gives voice to those things that are honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, lovely, of good report, and praiseworthy. In the interest of this responsibility, you will notice that comment moderation has been activated for all comments. As is typical in such situations, the misuse of an extreme few has lead to an inconvenience for the many.

We want everyone who comes with an earnest desire to constructively communicate to feel as if they have a voice here, whatever their state of mind, faith, or heart. Whether your faith is strong and sure like a towering oak, or is little more than a seed that you may or may not will to grow, your productive thoughts and feelings are welcome here.

We simply can not give space to comments that yield feelings of contention, insult, or animosity, and so, to mitigate such possibilities, comments will be screened. I assure you, though, that our editorial staff stands ready to dilligently mind the moderation queue, and that any delay in your comments’ appearance on the site should be fairly minimal by day, and nothing later than first thing in the morning by night.

Finally, our summer break is coming to its close. Expect the usual weekly schedule of features to resume this coming week–book reviews in “All Good Books” on Mondays, the scriptural column “Every Word” on Wednesdays, and “Modern Inspiration” on Thursdays. We have some excellent pieces from a few new guests lined up in addition to the reliably wonderful content from our regular staff of writers. Again, I extend the invitation to any who feel so inspired, to submit a piece or two; we are always delighted by the blessing of unexpected submissions from new voices.

In addition to my gratitude, I share with all of you my warmest affections, and leave with you my testimony that our church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is a blessed, inspired organization that bears to the world the fulness of the gospel. I am so very grateful for my place as a sister in it, for what it brings to my life and mind. My joy for it I would sing to every heart that would hear, and so I hope that even your heart does.

Sincerely,
Naiah
