Jessawhy,
Thank you for stopping by, and thank you for your comment! These truths are anchors for me in a world where there is so much information out there, and so many opinions and viewpoints about things, even in the Church. We are blessed to know that we can turn to God's word for guidance. Indeed, they are a 'sure bet.' :)

Michelle,
Thanks for referring me to this article. I really enjoyed it, I think it is exactly what we have been talking about.
I am disappointed that there aren't more comments, but perhaps that is because there isn't much to add, you've said it so well. I think it can be hard to determine what knowledge is worth our time, but following the scriptures is a sure bet.
I appreciate your insight.

Michelle, I thought your application of the olive tree allegory to the problems we can have with our testimony was particularly striking, and very timely. Each age has its particular challenges, and information overload is one that confronts us daily. We are bombarded with junk mail and spam. Hundreds of television channels and radio stations available at the push of a button. A few keystrokes take us to the Internet, where heretofore unheard of quantities of data can become like parasitical vines, growing over and weighing down our branches.

Thanks for this thoughtful essay on testimony, and for the reminder that "not all information is of equal value, and not all information will feed the roots of testimony. . . ." It prompts me to re-examine how I spend my time on the Internet, among other things. It also prompts me to look closely at the tree of my testimony--to be sure I am nourishing the roots, tearing off any parasitic vines, and pruning any branches that might have become pridefully lofty!

Michelle, these are excellent insights and reminders of how we need to nourish our testimonies to strengthen them so they can grow. Balance, balance, balance! I like the scriptures you use to illustrate your points. That last one, in particular, is important to ponder as we seek to be faithful and to understand what we need to do in the gospel. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.
