Naiah, I wondered if girls would take the "kiss" reference in a joking way, and your comment makes it clear that they would.

I agree that most of our youth are doing a great job of navigating the waters of modern-day society.

RoAnn, I'm glad you liked the interview and the review. I've done just a couple of interviews with reviews before, but I'm trying to be sure I put forth the effort to do them as much as I can with these now. It really does make them more special & fun I think.

It would make a great gift for a teen girl--judging by the teen girls' response to it here. What's funny is that the girls are so used to 'filtering' books and media that those aspects of this one that might have been slightly outside our standards didn't even phase them. It was interesting as I pointed out the card with the "let's kiss" line; the girls practically rolled their eyes at me and said that it just fit rhythmically with the other 2-syllable lines, but that OF COUUUUURSE they wouldn't really go off and kiss someone just because they both hated Valentines. It's easy to underestimate our youth, but really, they know. They live it every day.

What a bonus to have an interview with the author of The UnValentine as well as a review of the book! Thanks for this, Naiah. It sounds like it would make a fun gift for a teenaged girl.

I'm glad you pointed out that it might require some conversation on the types of relationships we should aim for at various ages of our lives, as well as when kissing might be appropriate. Just because we are all members of the same church doesn't mean that we will agree with how various authors treat different subjects.

[...] I came up to bed fairly early tonight, as my kind and sweet husband offered to put the kids down without me so that I could get a little extra project time. I set to and wrote up this week’s book review on A Prayer of Faith, had a great long chat on the phone with Michelle as we edited it together, took care of a few other sundries, had some sweet quiet time with my husband, and before I knew it it was midnight. Mind you, I’m quite the retire-to-thy-bed-early kind of girl, as I get up hours before my children in the morning so that I can have time for study, prayer, pondering, writing, [editing middle of the night blog entries like this, rife with typos,] and other tasks that require more headspace than can be found from kid-up to kid-down.
