Had I been there, I would have snapped it up a bunch myself, but for far less altruistic reasons. We only have 2 cans of wheat, and those were given to us by a friend. Cannery date this friday, though! So, I'm glad that sister was there, to touch your heart in a special way. Since my experience the other night, I've been thinking about how the Lord not only accomplished His will, but does so in a chosen way--and sometimes the way that's chosen is chosen so that we will feel his love. Seems like you had one of those moments here, too...

Justine, RoAnn, thanks for your thoughts. It IS quite a responsibility to work there. And a blessing.

And I have to say that not all workers at the cannery have always been so nice. The choices that were made by these people made ALL the difference, just as you have stated, RoAnn. Charity is a gift, but it also involves choice. I am so very grateful that in that moment when anger and frustration could have won out, that dear couple was kind and loving and patient.

I should also add that the whole crew was willing to purchase the cans and spread the cost out. The cannery was going to resell at a lower price, so everyone basically let it go...except that couple who decided they would help the cannery and just be done with it all. I think they could tell it meant a lot to me, too.

After reading about some of the horrible things going on in Africa today, it was so heartening to read this post.

Yes, evil is rampant, but I'm reminded of the closing lines of the Christmas hymn, "O, Little Town of Bethlehem":

No ear may hear His coming;
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him, still
The dear Christ enters in.
Because you were all listening to promptings from the Spirit, and exemplifying the Savior's love, a situation which could have resulted in anger and/or hurt feelings, ended up being a blessing to those involved.

I really love those cannery sisters. I'm glad you didn't stay home too. I always feel the pressure to not goof when I'm there. It's like I'm handling the bounty of the Lord that will be spread to those in need. It's a very reverent experience.

What a great story to have written down in your personal writings. Thanks for sharing it.
