Gratitude and Patriotism

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007 by Marilynne

This was written by Marilynne, one of our new writers. Welcome, Marilynne!

The Book of Jarom in The Book of Mormon teaches about economic cycles wherein the righteous prosper, pride grows, sin abounds, and afflictions such as war, natural disasters, and/or famine come. Then prophets preach, hearts mellow, repentance follows, and peace and prosperity return. The pattern repeats itself over and over, with succeeding generations often failing to learn the foremost lesson of history: violate the laws of God and negative consequences are inevitable. “We Always Remember Jesus”

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007 by Naiah

I just got an email from one of my visiting teachers, with a link to this video. It is about both how to and how not to do your visiting teaching and is both heartwarming and hilarious.

It appears that the video link is not available anymore. We are working to find another active link to share with you.

My children were watching it with me, and, at the point where it moves from hilarious to heartwarming, there’s a picture of the Savior visible. When he saw it, my darling three-year-old little boy whispered in the most gentle and reverently loving voice, “That’s Jesus; we *always* remember Jesus.”

Out of the mouths of babes, my sisters. In regard to Visiting Teaching or otherwise, we should always remember Jesus.

How’s Your Heart?

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006 by Michelle

To all of you who decided to participate in our experiment: How is it going? How is your heart? Is it more open? Have you noticed a difference in your life? We are so excited to hear about your experiences, feelings and insights!

With the holiday this week and all, we have shuffled things around a little, so check here on Friday for the next article in our series. (And, if by chance you have forgotten about the experiment, you have a couple of extra days to give it a try!)

Experiment with Us!

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006 by Naiah

Take a quick moment, right now, to think about your heart. Feel your heart. How does it feel? Would you say that it is open, soft, and loving? Or is it closed off in some way or another? That’s all you need to do. You have just conducted your first step in the experiment. It’s that easy. This experiment is about awareness. That’s it. Pay attention to your heart in your various interactions as you go about your day, your week, your month. Be mindful of its state, and how that affects your own sense of the Spirit, as well as how you interact with others. Just pay attention; that’s all you have to do. Read the rest of this entry »

God’s Beloved Daughters

Sunday, June 4th, 2006 by Téa

The Relief Society Declaration (see my initial post here) begins with these words:

We are beloved spirit daughters of God, and our lives have meaning, purpose, and direction.

Volumes could be written on this sentence alone–join me in exploring and pondering these eternal truths, seeking out practical applications of these words.

That Other Declaration

Saturday, May 27th, 2006 by Téa

5.2 million candles make quite the city on a hill. The members of the Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints constitute the largest women’s organization worldwide. Naturally, we attract attention.

General Relief Society President Mary Ellen Smoot at the 25 September 1999 General Women’s Meeting, presented a message explaining that women throughout the world will be drawn to the Church as we sisters perfect our lives and live essential truths to light the way for others to follow.
